ABOUT US

HISTORY

At age 23, Kirk S. Spahn founded the Institute for Civic Leadership, both a symbol and a product of youth making a difference in the world, which has become a global not-for-profit education organization dedicated to supporting global youth service leadership, education, and social entrepreneurship.

Through a specially designed high school curriculum, summer programs, speaker series, the ICL has inspired thousands of young adults to take action in over 30 countries. ICL students have been recognized entrepreneurs, received scholarships to nearly every top university, and have won an extraordinary 6 congressional medals of service.

For nearly 20 years, the ICL has fostered a community of student leaders and ICL champions and mentors across the globe. Our ICL Alumni are truly inspired and are changing the world. Some ICL Academy graduates have gone on to : win congressional medals of service, become captains of their college teams, joined the professional tennis tour, performed on broadways, competed in the olympics, performed on television and cinema, started their own companies, been nominated as part of fortune magazines 30 under 30 list, and have gone on to attend the college of their dreams. We encourage all former ICL alumni and champions to share their experiences on how they continued to follow the mantra of ‘Dare to Dream, Have the Courage to Risk, and Show Leadership Through Action!
